It's been an exciting, adrenalin pumping year for the MAAA and its members. We’ve welcomed new pilots and watched them soar to great heights, as well as seen our long-term clubs grow with new infrastructure and improved flying fields. As the year comes to a close and we embark upon the festive season, it’s a great time to reflect on the achievements and success that made flying in 2016 enjoyable
The MAAA has been working hard at our head office in regards to the Senate Enquiry on drones. Both as a recreational and professional sport, the interest and participation of flying drones continues to grow. We will keep you informed and updated as the enquiry progresses.
Thank you to the 1,651 members who took part in the 2016 Annual Survey. You gave some great food for thought, and the MAAA executive will be looking at your suggestions over the coming months. One of the things our members have been asking us about is help with funding for club facilities. The 2017 annual MAAA Club Assistance Scheme officially opens in February 2017. In the past three years we have distributed $150,000 to our clubs to improve and enhance their facilities. In this members update, we have included a ‘how to’ article to help you navigate the process of applying for funding.
Christmas is a fantastic time of year to relax and enjoy some fun flying with your mates. We would love to see photos of you flying your models with your friends. Please feel free to share these photos on the MAAA Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MAAAaeromodelling/
I would like to take this moment to thank our members for a wonderful year and our best wishes to you and your families over the holiday break.
